Have you heared about Adwords? What is Adwords anyway? To give you an idea of what Adwords means, here are the some definitions of Adwords.

A simple definition from Google, Adwords is Google’s advertising program based on cost-per-click pricing. Base on Wikipedia, Adwords is Google’s flagship advertising product, and main source of revenue. Adwords offers pay-per-click (PPC) advertising, and site-targeted advertising for both text and banner ads. The Adwords program includes local, national, and international distribution.

It also makes a notable difference from Overture’s CPC model that is based on bid amount and nothing else. Google applies such geat importance to feature those paid search results that are more popular and thos which are more important and useful.

Adwords Tips

by Grace Cruz

Google Adwords team created a series of Adwords optimization tips for advertisers. One of my favorite posted article from their blog was about brainstorming on new keyword ideas. Here are the following tips on how to brainstorm on new keyword ideas.

  • Google Trends helps an advertiser to look at the search volume for different keyword ideas. You can use Google Trends to figure out how users are searching for it. Google Trends also shows how frequently your topics have appeared in Google News stories, and in which geographic regions people have searched for them most.
  • Search Query Report shows performance data for the search queries that triggered your ads that received clicks. Since Search Query Report includes search queries and their corresponding performance data, you can use this report to fine-tune existing keyword lists. Specifically, you can use this report to identify both new keywords and negative keywords that you’d like to add to your account to better control when you would like your ad to appear.
  • Forums and Wikipedia. Browsing different discussion forums is a great way to keep track of all the buzz related to your industry. Discussion forums related to your industry and online information sources like Wikipedia are other ways to learn how the general public perceives your product or service. If there are misconceptions about your industry, you can use this information to your advantage.
  • Google Search. Finally, use Google search to your advantage. Perform Google searches to see what the most relevant results are for both natural and sponsored search results. You can check out the sponsored results to see what other people are advertising and use natural search results to find sites you can browse for new ideas.

Looking at these results can also help you brainstorm new negative keyword ideas so that you can better target your audience.

Google Adwords Tool

by Grace Cruz

Adwords Editor is a free, downloadable campaign management application released by Google Adwords available for everyone to help advertisers navigate quick and easy on their account, copy and paste keywords and ad text, share proposed changes with others, advertisers can even work offline and upload changes later, and, most importantly, make large-scale changes using a wide variety of search and editing tools.

The first version of the tool was the Adwords Editor Version 2.0 which includes features such as:

  • Replacing text. You can make changes on multiple ads within your account like changing the price of an item. Makes it easy to find and replace text from a headline, description line, or URL in one step.
  • Find duplicate keywords. You can edit or delete the duplicates for multiple instances of the same keyword on your account.
  • Advanced Maximum CPC changes quality helps you adjust bids by a specified percent or dollar amount, raise bids to the minimum CPC for all your inactive keywords, and more. This my favorite feature on Adwords Editor since you can save a lot of time just on editing Max CPC bids.
  • Keyword Grouper. This feature takes an existing list of keywords and divides them into smaller Ad Groups based on common themes. You can then create related ad text for the new Ad Groups or have the choice of using existing ad text from within your account.

Other upgrades on Adwords Editor is Adwords Editor Version 3.5 which includes support for image ads, campaign targeting by region and city, and a drag-and-drop feature that makes it easier to move items from one location to another. The latest version is the Adwords Editor Version 5.0. Aside from the other features, the new feature is now available for Windows and Mac. Adwords Editor Version 5.0 includes support for local business ads, an export picker that lets you select specific campaigns and ad groups to save to a CSV file, and the ability to save advanced search settings.
